Kalel
We got Kalel (German Shepherd) as a puppy in March 2006 and for a while she was the perfect pet but it didn’t take long before she started to take over the house. With the advice from the breeder we took Kalel shopping and to training but soon discovered that she didn’t take kindly to strangers and to other dogs approaching us.
We persevered for a while but did give up when Kalel approached 18 months. She became very protective of us which made us nervous to take her where there were too many people as it caused Kalel and ourselves and lot of stress and we were worried about her aggression.
In Summer 2009 we saw The Dog House advert and decided to pay them a visit. We met with Keith and Lynn and told them about Kalel then arranged to take her down one day. Keith met us and after an initial assessment he explained that Kalel was a nervous dog and the only way she knew how to express her feelings was to show what we thought was aggression. After spending some time together Kalel quickly learned to trust Keith and Lynn. Kalel now goes to agility once every week where she can burn her excess energy and has a lot of fun. We also take Kalel on a social dog walk every weekend where she has learned how to interact with other dogs and even plays off lead with them sometimes - something we never thought would ever happen!Since attending The Dog House, Kalel’s behaviour has massively improved and because we now have the knowledge how to handle her more effectively, we have the confidence to take her anywhere. Kalel is still work in progress but with the help and support of Keith and Lynn she is a much healthier and happy dog.
Thanks very much for all of your help, it is very much appreciated.
